Mona is a 120 acre property with the formal gardens extending over 8 acres. Different moods are created in the different gardens, from the dramatic sweeping lawns and lake to the secluded intimate and romantic walled garden.
The formal croquet court, surrounded by a sandstone terrace overlooking the lake, is a perfect location for sunset drinks, or wander along the rhododendron walk under the canopy of tall trees.
The four seasons bring changes in the mood of the gardens. In Spring the scent of jonquils, daphne, lilac, daffodils fill the air and the woodlands floor is a carpet of bluebells under the roof of deciduous elms.
Summer brings the perennial border to life with mass plantings of weeping cherries and peach, peonies, Easter daisies, red hot pokers, rainbow flax, sedums, columbines, ajuga, agapanthus and white tulips.
The tennis court surround is heavy with the blossom of climbing roses which give way to old apple and chestnut trees beyond. The hedged walled rose garden is filled with the fragrant blooms of David Austin and hybrid tea roses.
The warm days are complimented by the sound of cool running water from the majestic fountain and the dense shade from mature lindens, elms, oaks and maples provide protection from the sun.
Autumn is spectacular with a show of reds, yellows and oranges as the many deciduous trees prepare to shed their leaves for winter. Frosty mornings and mysterious mists lend an atmosphere all of their own to this special place.
In the fields are linden, beech and horse chestnut trees. A giant eagle perched upon a rock can be viewed from the drive and the woolshed.
The stone bridge provides a dramatic backdrop for photos and is a popular location for wedding party photographs. It has also proved a thrilling coach ride for many a bridal party and their guests.
